“The Insider” which came out in 1999 is as relevant today as when made. Starring Russell Crowe and Al Pacino it is a fictionalised account of a true event. A scientist working for a tobacco company discovers that the company is manufacturing cigarettes to be as addictive as possible. When he becomes a whistleblower he finds himself on the receiving end of every dirty trick a wealthy corporation can muster – being stalked, subjected to a smear campaign and threatened with lawsuits.
It sounds like a dry subject, but it has been turned into a gripping and realistic drama. Well worth watching.
